Welcome to the DFA Collaborative Medium!

I’d love to welcome you to the DFA Collaborative Medium blog — your go-to place for stories about the latest in design from a unique DFAer perspective and to learn how fellow DFAers tackle life’s big questions. We’re so excited to get this up and running and learn from you on what you’d like to see here and how to improve upon it in the next year!

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE DFA COLLABORATIVE WEBSITE?

Some of you may recall that back in June 2015, an official DFA Collaborative website went live which included a blog section. True to the DFA process, the DFA Collaborative website is going through it’s next iteration. In the meantime, the blog section has been migrated to this Medium which will offer us flexibility and a wider audience.

WHY A BLOG?

In-person meetups were fun, social, but we wanted more.

We started at geographical Hubs (like studios) where alums could get together to do projects, hold events, and network with like-minded professionals. Three Hubs (Chicago, Bay Area and Portland) had meetings every so often and held a few events which was AWESOME. As we learned more about the attraction of these events and more about how alums like to spend their time, we learned that Hubs were meeting to have fun. We loved it. But this opened up the question “Where could we foster conversation around the career and big life questions DFA alums still want to talk about?” Enter: this blog.

WHO MADE IT HAPPEN?

Wonderful people volunteer their time for causes they care about.

Sounds so simple! But over the past year so many DFA alum have been dedicating their extra time volunteering to build this for you! We should all give a huge thanks to all of the builders and contributors who made this blog possible! Especially:

  • Justin Wu, Guy Kopsombut, Alison Polton-Simon who built the website
  • Hannah Chung and Annie Wu who created the look of the website
  • Ada Ng, Ellen Su who figured out all the content direction by interviewing DFAers
  • Stacy Kingbell who made sure we have $$ to do things and that the direction of the Collaborative and DFA National compliment one another
  • All DFA Collab Members at the Portland Retreat who helped us bring this vision together!

Be on the lookout for new content, new contributors (the Collaborative team just got a lot bigger!) and more in the next few months. Your thoughts and feedback are always welcome and we hope you enjoy what’s to come!
