What it Will Take to Win v0.6 Round 3 of Dark Forest
After over a week of gameplay it is all but certain an “anonymous” entity will achieve a commanding victory in v0.6 Round 3 of Dark Forest. Player 0x0797846bdb85e3303ad745e9d4e7d563a8ca1702 has held the Level 9 planet at the centre of the universe since August 16 and has built up a fortress of fully upgraded planets armed to the teeth with high-level artifacts in the areas closest to the top ranking planets.
Additionally, allied players have closed ranks around Player 797, negotiating spots in the Top 10 and beyond as non-allied players have been making the slow crawl towards the coveted Top 63 spots.
dfdao’s position in this round is not strong; limited by piloting availability among our core members, we have been spending this round building out our dao infrastructure, contributing to an NFT marketplace for Dark Forest, and making steady progress towards the middle planets. We hope to reach the Top 63 bracket in the leaderboard.
The Challenge
The defences of Society Eggnog, the planet at 0,0, are fully upgraded. It is armed with a legendary planetary shield, an epic planetary shield, and a legendary wormhole. It will require more than 9.3M energy to breach the planet, plus an untold amount of additional power to maintain a hold on the planet and fend off retaliatory attacks from Player 797, who holds the bulk of nearby planets, and allied forces. What’s more, several of the allies are motivated by more than just an agreement to allow Player 797 victory in exchange for a spot in the Top 10; some of the surrounding allies are members of Player 797’s DAO, and so they have a vested interest in 797’s success.
The worst-kept secret in the Dark Forest universe is the identity of Player 797, who is Orden DAO, formerly ghst_gg. This fact leads us to the next, and possibly most overwhelming barrier to challenging Orden DAO for the victory: their financial resources are immense. Five days ago, Orden DAO’s Dark Forest wallet received an infusion of $209 xDAI, and the wallet the transaction originated from holds over $28K xDAI. Orden DAO has the resources to survive a terrific siege.
The Path to Victory
For a player other than Orden DAO to win v0.6 Round 3 at this stage would require coordination and collaboration on a scale the universe has never seen. It would take a collective agreement to risk a strong position on the Leaderboard to band together and mount an intergalactic assault capable of overcoming Society Eggnog’s defenses and fend off the allied players.
A ray of hope — perhaps one chance in 14 million — exists in some revealing alpha shared by Orden DAO this afternoon.
They are not surrounded on all sides by allies. They have a significant weakness in the bottom right area of the map, and only a single layer of allied empires cushioning them from the rest of space. Thus, an opening exists for a coordinated Hail Mary attack.
The Endgame
To mount a coordinated intergalactic Hail Mary attack, several things would be needed.
- A place to plan. For instance, perhaps a Discord server that has already been set up for like-minded Dark Forest players to be… Remembered.
- An agreed upon time to make our final stand, and simple tactics for anyone a part of the attack to follow.
- An understanding that we face tremendous odds, and standing together may likely end in defeat for us all.
Good luck to you all in the final hours of Round 3. Our Twitter DMs are open.
