AirGap adds support for ICP’s ckBTC

In our previous blog post, We announced that we will be adding support for ckBTC, a bitcoin-pegged token on the Internet Computer Protocol. We are pleased to announce that AirGap now fully supports ckBTC.

ckBTC is an interesting development because it allows users to hold and transact with bitcoin on the ICP network, which offers faster transaction speeds and lower fees compared to the Bitcoin network. This can make it a compelling option for users who want to benefit from the advantages of the ICP network while still holding and transacting with bitcoin.

This is big news because it shows the potential of the ICP network to attract new users and developers, and expands the use cases for bitcoin and the ICP network. Additionally, AirGap is the perfect solution to store ckBTC because it offers a secure and easy-to-use cold wallet solution for the average crypto user.

Overall, the integration of ckBTC on the ICP network and AirGap’s support for it is a significant development that offers new opportunities for users to securely and easily hold and transact with bitcoin on the ICP network.

About AirGap

AirGap is a software Wallet that turns a spare mobile phone into a hardware Wallet. It achieves this by using two apps, AirGap Vault, and AirGap Wallet. Those can be downloaded from the Appstore, the Google playstore or directly the APK. Find the links at the bottom of this article.

AirGap Vault

AirGap Vault is a blockchain-agnostic and interoperable crypto Vault that turns your mobile phone into a hardware wallet. It does not connect to any network, irrespective of the device used. This system built into the app makes it more secure than an ordinary crypto wallet.

Transactions are signs using verifiable QR codes. This opens up multiple possibilities for interacting with other solutions and also wallets.

The AirGap Vault can be used alongside other companion apps like AirGap Wallet, MetaMask, Sparrow Wallet, BlueWallet, Specter, and other QR code-based wallets. These companion apps serve as watch-only wallets that allow users to view portfolios and initiate transactions while the Vault signs transactions and protects their private keys offline.

The AirGap Wallet is a watch-only wallet alongside the AirGap Vault. This separation helps to provide optimum security while handling your funds.

How to add ckBTC in AirGap

Download the AirGap Vault and Wallet, links are available for both iOS and Android below. Generate or Import your recovery phrase.

Click the Confirm button.

Set a label for your wallet and click the confirm button. Scroll down and select ckBTC and select the done button.

Select the new ckBTC wallet just created.

Click the AirGap Wallet button to sync the Vault with the Wallet. Select which method you are using. App Syncing for single device approach and QR scanning for two device approach. In this guide we used the app switching.
