MetaSports: The Road to a 3D Playable Basketball Game Featuring NFT Avatars
From a simple management simulation game to controlling your NFT avatars live on the court in a fully immersive 3D basketball game 🏀
Today, we’re announcing an updated roadmap to include a new end vision for MetaSports — a 3D fully playable basketball experience.
We’re bringing Space Jam to the metaverse through a funky arcade style basketball game, featuring NFT avatars, and a real in-game economy for players and leagues.
Think NBA Jam or NBA Street with a real-in game economy that’s driven and owned by you, the community who governs and plays the game.

Why Play MetaSports 3D

The MetaSports simulation game will be a great starting place to grind out some $MBA & $BALL, learn player synergies, and get a head start on branding out your franchise publically (we told you, you can really own a basketball team in the metaverse!)
However, for those seeking more interactive experiences we’re building a 3D open-world where you get to live and die by your franchise. In MetaSports 3D you’ll be able to build a team, own a basketball franchise, take on real opponents in either casual or league play, and earn tokens to elevate your team to the next level. You truly will own and control a basketball franchise in the metaverse.
More than that, what would a Metaverse be without some interoperability? MetaSports will be an open metaverse where you’ll be able to port in other NFT collections or play with randomly generated MBA ones. We’re creating a unique set of crazy moves and power-ups for each collection that the community votes into the MBA, such as custom dunk mechanics for when your Bored Ape posterizes a Cool Cat in-game.
The end goal is to have a true MBA meta-economy that could rival that of an actual IRL basketball league. Through our 3D playable game & governance model for league generation and curation, that goal is now possible.
Everything we’re building, from the game’s Phase 1 to the 3D assets, are building blocks for Phase 2 of MetaSports, the full 3D on-court game.

Phase 1 — Management Simulation Game
MetaSports will first launch as a management simulation game where game outcomes are determined by your ability to manage your team & find synergies among your NFT players.
We want our OG ballers to start getting the feel for key aspects of MetaSports such as synergies among players and player evolution. The more you know about the game of basketball, the better you’ll be. While you’re at it, earn some $MBA and $BALL tokens that can be used to expand and develop your dream team!

Phase 2
2.1 — Release of the Fully Playable 3D Version of MetaSports
3D assets and animations? Check. Mechanics, stats, and gameplay? Check. Live 5v5 playable matches against real opponents? Check. At this stage, it is time for the grand vision to land. Control your players in a wild and wacky basketball arcade style video game and take on other players in different game modes, including 5v5, 3v3, 30 user simulated seasons, and more all in the MBA metaverse.
Character abilities & customization will be a large part of the MBA. Imagine Bored Ape’s throwing down a banana peel for extra defense or a Gutter Cat using its tail to give it a bit of extra height when shooting a three over a strong guard. Every player from the MBA collection will also have their own quirky set of abilities, making for some unpredictably fun & unique gameplay.
Take full control of your players & fight for your chance at a top spot in our leagues. Don’t worry if you couldn’t make it pro, your fully stacked team of Bored Apes still can.
2.2 — MBA Metaverse
Looking to be more than just a team owner in the MBA metaverse? You’re in luck. MetaSports will also be dropping a limited set of groovy arenas, training facilities, storefronts and more. Users can own and operate each aspect of their franchise land and even customize their operation by purchasing from other artists & developers at their store fronts.
Arenas 🏟
Arenas will be structured as fully customizable NFTs that owners can host games or tournaments in. Want to sell the naming rights? Come together with other arena owners and create and market a popular league? The possibilities are as limited as your creativity.
Training Facilities 🏃♀️
After a long season, players will need a hub rest and power up their skills and abilities. As part of our general land sale, we will include limited training facilities that will act as rare NFTs and will be unique territory to start building your MBA dream team.
Who knows, maybe some of your retired MBA players might be able to teach the young bucks a thing or two. Perhaps you could even cash in training some other MBA NFT athletes from other users.
Store Fronts 👟
As in real life, our world will have stores with different NFT merchandise and in-game equipables. Some of those will be exchanged for IRL rewards.
Remember the external partnerships we talked about before? Well, get your $BALL and $MBA ready to purchase high-end clothing and accessories along with other items for your arenas, training facilities and players. Boost your players stats with a new pair of Speed Sneakers or even just decorate your arena with a designer Hoops NFT.
