Chris Kelley Joins DFJ
by Emily Melton, DFJ Partner
I am thrilled to announce that Chris Kelley has joined DFJ’s Venture investing team. In his role as principal, Chris is focused on investments in disruptive technologies and data platforms with new and existing portfolio companies. Chris will be based in our Menlo Park office and will continue to invest in early stage opportunities, focused largely in the Bay Area and Seattle.
Most recently, Chris was CEO of Versive, a leading enterprise machine learning platform. Chris also co-founded Catenus Science, an organization dedicated to identifying and mentoring top-flight data science talent for high-growth companies. Prior to Versive, Chris was an investor at Formation 8, and earlier developed products at Palantir Technologies, Skybox Imaging (Google), and Authentic8. He began his career as an aerospace engineer working on unmanned systems. Chris earned his BS in aerospace engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
I met Chris four years ago when we co-invested in Wellframe — a mobile enabled care management platform developed by a team out of Harvard and MIT. Chris demonstrated an ability to go deep technically, mentor a young team as the business scaled, and grapple with the complexities of selling in the healthcare ecosystem. In addition to having informed discussions about how we both believe technology platforms will transform healthcare, Chris has strong opinions about the evolution of learning models as applied to security, infrastructure technology, and — a prerequisite for DFJ — he loves rockets.
DFJ is a firm made up of independent thinkers who love to learn and question the status quo. Chris’s curiosity is insatiable, his work ethic admirable and his dedication to the entrepreneurs he works with unwavering. I’m excited to have him join the team!
