I Spent $4,567 on a MacBook Pro — Here are 6 Things I Lost

On the one hand, I’m super-excited that I’m getting a new MacBook Pro at all — it’s been so long.

On the other hand, I’m just realizing the things that I will lose in the transition from old to new:

  1. Full HDMI port (used often, because most projectors have HDMI and VGA)
  2. DisplayPort (used all the time when presenting at meetings and such)
  3. My physical “Esc” key (I use this key 100+ times a day, every day)
  4. My second-favorite keyboard (my favorite being the Thinkpad keyboards). The new MBP keyboard has less travel is going to be more like the “new” MacBook “butterfly” keyboard.
  5. USB ports which I use all the time for peripherals like external hard drives, memory sticks, device configuration/charging (most third-party devices now use USB->MicroUSB).
  6. SD Card (used on pretty much every trip I go on to transfer photos from my camera).

I’m really beginning to wonder if I’m going to have withdrawal symptoms and want to go back to my old MacBook for a while.

We’ll see.

What do you think?
