If you hadn’t heard of the concept of a ‘deep fake’, you will hear of it relatively soon. This new technology allows a user to manipulate images, videos, or sound. Videos have been floating around the internet of former President Obama hurling insults that he never spoke. A convincing audio clip of Joe Rogan is also being widely circulated.

The reason deep fake technology will be part of the modern and future news day will be for the malevolent purposes it can be used for. An article in the Washington Post investigates an app that allows a user to make fake porn videos using people’s faces. The article indicates that anyone can be a potential target of this app.

The scariest thing about this technology is that it’s still relatively new. It makes one wonder what it will be capable of in the future as the tech gets better. The idea of “fake news” is on everybody’s lips today. What would a future look like as the deep fake technology keeps getting better?
