What Defines Beauty In Our Generation?

The phobia of this generation.

Consider a tree for a moment. As beautiful as trees are to look at, we don’t see what goes on underground — as they grow roots. Trees must develop deep roots in order to grow strong and produce their beauty. But we don’t see the roots. We just see and enjoy the beauty. In much the same way, what goes on inside of us is like the roots of a tree.

I do believe that all of our “beauty” problems came from the social media world (aka the internet).

You know how some relationships can turn upside down because of the “lack of interest” between different individuals?

I really can’t count how many movies actually brought that fact to our reality. The sad part is that they never showed us the real reason behind that “lack of interest”. Well, even if they do they will probably show you that something happened and one of these guys just can’t see the other person as beautiful anymore.

That sucks and I am kinda sick of it because that is just not right at all.

Okay that’s cool. Let me ask you this.

How would you define beauty?

In general, we as human beings see the term beauty in a very confusing way and if you think about it you would realize that it’s a vague one. It all depends on how you see the world around you, I mean your real vision and perspective towards people. We can’t just define beauty as if it was so easy to do so but let’s ask Google for help.

Beauty: the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.

Uhmm. Is that 100 percent true?

You see, we were born different. It’s in our blood and we can do nothing about changing who we are. At the end of the day, we are just humans, right? Some people can’t even remember their roots but deep inside they feel that these roots established a certain culture which will create diverse qualities for them in the future. Particular qualities such as shape, the color of skin, origin, spiritual levels, mental states…Etc can shape our “humanity” and just “touch” our spirits as human beings. In simple words, “we live, breath, and interact with the world through these qualities.”

Close your eyes for a second and ask yourself.
Do I see these qualities every single day?

That’s true because you do encounter with people. Actually, you can feel these qualities right now through my writings and I believe that I do have certain values that make me different than the rest of you guys. Now, let’s focus more on the part that says “gives pleasure to the senses”. When I read that phrase, I was like okay I think they mean this

Did you mean: External Beauty

Something like this. Sorry Bing.
Our generation is being destroyed by the bad effects of social media and the internet but that is just…so painful. I mean whenever you go you would find all these beauty ads which will make you think not only once, but like countless times about yourself.

You will be shocked by this fact.

In 2016, beauty-related content generated more than 55 billion views in Youtube.

The mind-blown thing is that this statistic show only what’s happening in Youtube! Just imagine what will be the number if I combined the beauty-related content in Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter? By now, you should realize the unimaginable power of social media in our world.

From DIY ( Do-it-yourself) videos to beauty reviews, beauty-related content doesn’t necessarily have that bad influence to people. It’s okay for some people to just try enjoying the feeling of freedom when they watch their favorite “beauty vloggers”. More importantly, our youth can be impacted though such content whether we like it or not.

Till this moment, I really don’t know whether it was a problem in our generation or in our ”media outlets” because if you just opened your TV or your smartphone you will see targeted ads which can lower your boundaries in many different ways when it comes to not being beautiful enough. I can’t even count how many times I saw an ad with a big bold title “How to look like a celebrity in less than two months” or something like “ Use our product X and be more beautiful in days”. All this nonsense bullshit.

It’s not the case that our media focus so much on such external details about humanity but I do believe that there are way more important things than that. At the same time, some marketers just want to make a living but I feel like… It’s so entitled within that narrow perspective. It’s all connected together social media, internet, TV and so on… Don’t you remember when you used to watch your favorite TV series or movie, you would find that there’s always a massive breakup that happens to one of the main characters in the movie?

Come on…That is acting man. Don’t make a big deal.

That is true but come on guys we all have that strong belief that these things happen in reality. The reason why I mentioned breakups explicitly instead of other things is because relationships are so important and meaningful to people. Whether you were a friend, lover, or even a stranger to someone you can either create that amazing bond with that person or you can make his/her life miserable. In any outcome, relationships will eventually impact how you guys live, think, and interact deep down with life.

We all saw it. People can get into deep and outstanding levels of depression or anxiety when they feel that they are just not beautiful or even when they are being judged by someone because they look ugly in their eyes. I mean that is 100 percent wrong but sometimes people don’t believe in themselves because they went through horrible experiences which I am quite sure it included something towards their physical or emotional qualities.

The Takeaway

Unleash yourself.
We all have our imperfections. But I’m human, and you know, it’s important to concentrate on other qualities besides outer beauty. ( Beyonce Knowles )
I keep wondering why it’s so hard to accept the fact that we do have high standards of perfectionism nowadays and we just try to manipulate our feelings, ideas, and visions towards something just because someone told us to do so. Well, the next time you find anything related to “increasing” the external beauty I want you to take a moment and just remember how lucky you are because you are still alive. You are breathing, right? That is a blessing already.
Trust me when I tell you this: No one is perfect and we can’t be. We are just humans. At the end of the day, it’s all about your inner beauty and you might not see this right now or at this particular phase in your life but humanity is still there. The best part about life is that you will feel the blessing only after you experience the good, bad and the ugly parts of it. It’s definitely not about external beauty anymore and it’s okay to be you. Don’t listen to other people because they will judge you anyway but if you stayed true to yourself you will feel the extraordinary pure feeling of the inner beauty! Stay cool and just be you, alright?
