Every diamond tells a story. For Brian, he knew the diamond he purchased for his (now) fiancé’s engagement ring needed to tell a very special one — as uniquely original as the woman he’s set to marry. Brian and fiancé Kate’s story began in Canada, so it was important to Brian that Kate’s ring have a connection to Canada — the breathtaking country where the couple fell in love.

Today, Brian and Kate, and diamond consumers around the world, now have a front row seat into the journey of their diamond from mine to finger, all without leaving the comfort of their local jewelry store. This remarkable, visually compelling experience is made possible by the technological ingenuity of the diamond industry.

The Canadamark brand recently partnered with Sarine Technologies to release the Sarine Diamond Journey, a visual adventure that enables consumers to explore each phase of the development of a diamond from mine to retail. The Sarine Diamond Journey is an extension to Canadamark’s state-of-the-art chain of custody process that guarantees the authenticity of Canadian diamonds, giving consumers an added layer of confidence in the origin and history of their natural diamonds.

So, how does it work? Before each Canadamark rough diamond is polished, it is scanned using Sarine’s proprietary 3-D imaging technology to map the diamond’s internal birthmarks and external surface. This information then informs the cutting plan for the rough diamond before it is polished to one-of-a-kind perfection. A final scan is performed to verify that every facet and detail of the finished diamond is accurate. When looking for Kate’s engagement ring in New York, a certified Canadamark retailer in Soho showed Brian a model of a round-cut diamond similar to the one below.

Beyond shedding light on the diamond’s beauty, the software also provides in-depth information on the Canadian diamond industry’s commitment to responsible and sustainable operations in the Northwest Territories of Canada, such as community development programs, environmental protection measures and wildlife conservation efforts. This gives consumers a deeper, more authentic connection with their diamonds.

A recent survey by KRC Research and the Diamond Producers Association found that nearly 90 percent of female Millennials look for authenticity when buying a luxury product. Nothing creates an authentic connection quite like connecting a consumer to the source of their diamond.

The Canadamark Sarine partnership represents just one of many efforts underway in the diamond industry to foster an enhanced understanding of the unique journey behind every diamond. By harnessing the power of technology and innovation, people like Brian and Kate can have a greater appreciation for the origin of the diamond that bonds their love. Now that’s something worth celebrating.
