Evolution From Data-Driven To Innovation-Driven

The only thing that matters as a leader is the impact you create… on your consumers, employees, partners, society and organization.

Last year, I created and launched the Data-Driven workshops at GoEmerald. This series was an amalgamation of my own enterprise-wide transformation strategy and delivery experience with 28+ clients in 9 different industries. The material presented had been tested across numerous organizational contexts, tech stacks and time. It was an honour to share actionable and novel strategies that increase the transformation ROI, through the Data-Driven Transformation and Data-Driven C-Suite workshops.

At a personal level, the most rewarding aspect from these workshops was the presence of so many diverse and global leaders. Leadership within the transform this community is a factor of the long-term impact someone aspires to create with their work and how they engage with others to materialize this impact. This egoless and inclusive melding of minds left me filled with gratitude after each of the 61 transform this workshops I hosted since June 2020. I thank our global community for these cross-border and unique exchanges.

In addition to the workshops, GoEmerald worked with 14 clients in 5 industries since 2020. 11 of the 14 organizations leveraged our strategies to develop and ship disruptive tech minimum viable products (MVPs). This included multi-stakeholder digital platforms, AI and IoT solutions. Impact to the entire product-set strategy and the overall organizational health from this work was incredible.

Here are the average results we saw for each of the 11 client organizations:

  • 12% faster time to market for the disruptive tech enabled MVPs, compared to the previous iterations
  • 8% reduction in the development cost
  • 23% increase in the remote teams’ ongoing delight and productivity
  • 25% increase in the end-consumers’ ongoing delight
  • 19% increase in the ability to demonstrate ongoing measurable value to the society from the MVP (this novel metric we created was key to the client leaders and extremely important to our own values at GoEmerald)

We also received multiple requests to continue the data-driven workshops from our transform this community. However, something is causing us to evolve this path for 2022.

We extensively researched 350+ companies in 25 industries over the last 1.5 years. Our findings indicate that it is no longer sufficient to remain a data-driven leader, if the goal is to build organizational success in the post-pandemic world. We continue to face threats from multiple pandemic waves, supply chain issues, people burnout, rising costs, an education crisis and more. To overcome these multi-faceted and intersecting challenges, organizations require an urgent focus on Data-Driven Innovation, championed by the future-focused Innovation-Driven Leaders.

Data-driven is to information. Innovation-driven is to IRL impact.

Data is just one of the many ingredients in the innovation equation towards success. Post pandemic consumers, employees, partners and society demand sustained well-being and tangible value. This will arrive from strategic and disruptive actions of the Innovation-Driving Leaders. This is why we are evolving our workshops to Data-Driven Innovation and Innovation-Driven C-Suite.

Our goal is to help leaders responsibly create innovative products, solutions and organizations for sustainable growth, that benefit the next seven generations.

Throughout 2022, we will also spotlight Innovation-Driven Leadership in these newsletters. These innovation-centric leaders are the champions of responsible innovation in their industries. Innovation-driving leadership involves building teams with goals to solve the impactful problems long-term. We showcased our first innovation-driving C-Suite leader in this series last week: Lawrence Eta. Lawrence is an innovation-centric C-Suite leader at my own hometown — the CTO at City of Toronto. Lawrence’s innovation-centric leadership is championing a plan to connect the entire Toronto community digitally, which will continue to thrive well beyond the pandemic era. You can read more about it here.

During the 2022 workshops, we will share case studies from our recent work with 14 clients in 5 industries, and the insights from our research covering 350+ companies in 25 industries. This will include the organizations and leaders that are creating data, AI, IoT and XR solutions in 2 new industries re-defining the humanity as we know it: circular economy and space.

If this interests you, I look forward to engaging in two-way conversations with you. Join the evolved transform this workshops, or reach out directly for a one-on-one conversation.
