This is how.

A new client of mine was confused with how he can describe his Software idea to me comprehensively. He was confused with all those jargons, like CRM, ERP, Apps, System, web site, portal and such.

So, I explained it to him, which I re-write below as a proper article.

A full-package Software Project consists of these 4 Platforms, typically:

  • A Web Site
  • A Web App
  • A Management System (sometimes called Admin Panel)
  • A Mobile App

Now, let me describe each of them.

Platform 1: Web Site:

What does this mean? Most probably you knew this already. It’s a front-end public-facing web site, sometimes called web portal. It is typically accessed by a domain name typed into the URL bar, and typically starting with www.

And a typical website will consist of: Home Page, About Us, Our Services, Our Team, Contact Us. Plus and minus some pages, but that’s the general idea.

Platform 2: Web App:

This means a “hidden” part of the same web site above. Usually it’s accessed by means of a login way, and only by special people. These special people are typically called Members, Agents, Staff or such similar labels.
