Don’t be so naïve, they said.

The government will never turn its back on growth, they said.

It will never put the people’s health first, they said.

People don’t trust scientists. Scientists are in it for themselves, they said.

People don’t want to look after other people. There’s no society anymore, they said.

You’re naïve, they said.

A cold-hearted virus comes to clench lungs and suffocate.

We will save lives, the Government said.

We will listen to scientists, the Government said.

We will stay at home to protect each other, because we are a community, we said.

Don’t be so naïve, they said.

The world will go back to normal, they said

People won’t trust climate scientists. Scientists are just in it for themselves, they said.

People don’t want to look after other people. There’s no society anymore, they said.

You’re naïve, they said.

An invisible gas heats the earth under our feet, ruins our crops and floods our cities.

We will save lives, we said

We will listen to scientists, we said.

The virus has made us different, we said.

We are not naïve anymore.
