Paratext

Objects directly related or surrounding a text that are not the text itself, but forming a frame to present the text, contributing to its meaning and how it is received or interpreted by the public.

The concept is usually associated with books, being that format’s paratexts the cover, title, foreword, colophon, and other materials not crafter by the author.
