FUN FACTS/BEACHES
Did You Know… Some Beautiful Beaches Glow In The Dark?
Not all beaches are the same
There are some beaches that at night time appear to glow with a blue light.
This light is caused by plankton using bioluminescence.
The sea around some beaches, and most specifically in the Maldives are full of this plankton.
As the sea washes onto the beach it glows blue and also sparkles like stars in the water.
If you walk on wet sand at night it will also cause the sand to take on a blue glow.
Not all beaches have the same sand.
There is a beach in Japan where the beach is made up of star shaped sand. This beach has taken many thousands of years to create.
It is made up of the tiny star shaped exoskeletons of creatures that lived in the coral surrounding the beach.
It is known as Star Sand Beach.
