Hello all! Diabetes is considered an epidemic that has spread around the world widely like the fire in the forest. The number of people with diabetes rose from 108 million in 1980 to 537 million in 2021. The prevalence of diabetes has been rising more rapidly in low and middle-income countries than in high-income countries. It is just not a disease by itself but a risk factor for various other diseases like blindness, kidney failure, heart attacks, and lower-limb amputations.

It is our hormone insulin that moves sugar from the blood into the cells. When the diabetic, the body either does not make enough insulin or cannot efficiently use the insulin it makes. When this condition is untreated it can lead to issues in nerves, eyes, kidneys, and other organs. Symptoms of diabetes include increased hunger, increased thirst, weight loss, frequent urination, blurry vision, extreme fatigue, and sores that do not heal.

There are a few studies that have proved that diabetes is a condition that can be reversed by some simple dietary and lifestyle changes. There is no cure for diabetes but studies show that reversal is possible. No one magic pill helps achieve it. Do not choose any product that claims to either cure this condition or ask to replace the medication. These can be under the name of dietary supplements, over-the-counter drugs, alternative medicines, homeopathic products, prescription drugs, etc.

Various lifestyle measures and medical options can help you reverse this condition. The key factors to help you come back to normal blood sugar levels are — Weight loss, physical activity, diet, and medication.

Ways to reverse diabetes-

  1. Avoid all refined carbohydrates like refined flour, simple sugars, bakery foods, processed grains like bread, pasta, etc. Sometimes whole grain bread also spikes blood sugar levels.
  2. When the body is already in a state where you cannot process carbohydrates and sugars, it is a burden if you include again sugars in your diet. Say no to all sugary foods.
  3. It is best to always water, tea, and coffee and hydrate well. Avoid all sweet drinks.
  4. Natural and healthy fats are important, do not eliminate them from diets. Avocados, olives, almonds, etc contain good fats that are important for the body.
  5. Feed your gut bacteria some healthy and probiotic food that in turn determines your health. Studies have shown that gut microbiota and type 2 diabetes are linked. So healthy gut microbiota leads to better blood glucose levels.
  6. Snacking is important and keep yourself some healthy proteins and fat sources like nuts, hummus, and olives to much on.
  7. Eat your meals regularly with constant meal timings to ensure blood glucose levels are improved.
  8. Consider fasting from time to time as it is also associated with several health benefits.
  9. Avoid stress and anxiety as it might trigger unwanted inflammation and disrupt the glucose uptake pathways resulting in high blood sugars.
  10. Try to sleep without anything in mind for at least 6 to 7 hours a day which helps you start your day better the next morning. It creates a mental ability to fight off such conditions and gives to spirit to follow some changes meticulously.

Diabetes reversal cannot happen with everyone within the specified time limit, it is important to focus on managing your blood glucose levels throughout life as this might lead to remission of diabetes. Symptoms might trigger back and push you into a diabetic category if the lifestyle and dietary changes are not continued. It is not a temporary change but a permanent lifestyle change that helps in the long term in managing this condition. Have a healthy and happy weekend folks! 😊
