This fruit is succulent and fragrant fruit of bright red colour, eaten raw and used to make jam, stewed fruit. It’s sweetness and fragrance have captivated the taste buds of people all around the globe. Today, they are widely grown in many countries and are among the most appreciated of all fruits. Could you guess which fruit it is ? Yes, Strawberries! They are highly appreciated for their pleasant aroma and as an appetite stimulator, which are easily digested and they have a great laxative effect, due to their fibre content, pigments, acids and enzymes.

They are called as ‘Antioxidant Powerhouse’ as they consist of antioxidant phytochemicals such as vitamin C, carotenoids and phenolic compounds including anthocyanins that protect cells and tissue in our body by neutralizing unstable molecules called free radicals, as too many free radicals roaming around in our body can lead to oxidative stress, an imbalance that can harm cells and tissues.

  • It is Beneficial in Reducing Oxidative Stress- Strawberries are a good source of antioxidants, which are beneficial in constantly battling oxidative stress from our environment, which contributes greatly to cellular aging and chronic illness. Additionally, the antioxidants in strawberries also help prevent certain cancers such as colorectal cancer.
  • It Supports in Building a Healthy Immune System- Strawberries are packed with vitamin C, which is linked to immune health support. It is an essential nutrient for overall health, particularly for our immune system’s ability to fend off pathogens.
  • It is Beneficial in Improving Cholesterol Levels- Consuming strawberries is linked to improved cholesterol markers of heart disease in at-risk individuals, it is beneficial in improving “bad” cholesterol levels in our body.
  • It Supports Cognitive Function and Reduces the Risk of Dementia- The flavonoids, anthocyanidins and vitamin C in strawberries contribute to the reduced incidence of dementia and support brain health and keep you sharp.

Ingredients

  • Yogurt (dairy or dairy-free) — 1 Cup (250 ml)
  • Frozen strawberries- 450 grams
  • Honey or maple syrup — 2 tbsp

Method of Preparation

  1. Add yogurt, honey and strawberries to a blender (in that order).
  2. Turn the blender on high and use the tamper to push the frozen strawberries into the blades. In 30 seconds you’ll have frozen yogurt.
  3. Scoop out the frozen yogurt and serve immediately or transfer to a storage container and freeze.

Healthy Ways to Include Strawberries in Diet

  • Instead of sugar and cream consume strawberries with balsamic vinegar or basil which tastes simple, but delicious.
  • Dip strawberries in low-fat yogurt or fat-free cream which makes it a creamy but healthy treat to enjoy.
  • Sliced strawberries can be added to make a simple yet delicious parfait with low-fat frozen yogurt.
  • It can be added to make a refreshing Smoothie along with a blend of frozen grapes and bananas.
  • Sprinkle a little black pepper on strawberries to enhance their natural flavor and add a little spice for flavor without the need for sugar.
  • Add sliced strawberries to greens salad along with chopped walnuts and a few tablespoons of feta cheese, then toss with low-fat balsamic vinegar to make a delicious salad.

Strawberries are a symbol of perfect goodness because of its delicious flavor and fragrance, it is low in energy (calories) but are an excellent source of vitamins and minerals and dietary fibre. It consists of hefty benefits, including potentially improved heart and brain health, reduced risk of some cancers. Furthermore, these berries are an excellent addition to a healthy diet.
