Handling the question “Is aspartame safe?” once and for all!

On one hand, aspartame is found in over 5000 products across North America including drinks, candy, meal replacements and even baby food.

So chances are high that you’ve consumed it at one point or another, and are walking around just fine.

And why shouldn't you be? The FDA recognizes it as a GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) substance.

But on the other hand, the FDA has documented over 10,000 official complaints filed against aspartame. These include muscle spasms, blindness, weight gain, loss of taste and 70 others adverse effects which would take a few hours to mention.

There have also been numerous studies conducted on rats to see if it’s safe, and the results were less than flattering. To be fair, there are counter-studies that show it’s safe.

As you can probably tell, when you have a group of scientists (and lobbyists hired using the massive amount of profits aspartame is generating) telling the public that it’s safe, and another group saying it’s quite the opposite, no one knows what the hell to believe.

So what should you do?

Well let’s take a look at your choices, along with the consequences they may have. Now personally speaking, my opinion on aspartame is rather concrete at this point. Basically, I’m fully against it (more on that in a minute).

But here’s the thing, those that avoid aspartame are in a no-lose situation.

Think about it — if aspartame turns out to be safe, then that’s just dandy. Those that avoided it and ate raw sugar will be fine, and those that’ve been consuming since Monica was riding Bill Clinton, will suffer from zero long-term drawbacks. Everyone’s happy, one group just gets a bit of validation from being “right.” Good for you.

But, what happens if the FDA is wrong?

Well, then a lot of people are basically fucked.

You see, the formaldehyde (a carcinogen) that accumulates in your body from consuming aspartame has no where to go.

Why? Because your body has no idea how to get rid of it, so it just stores it. Then it just sits there, year after year. Now, the European Food Safety Authority did a re-evaluation of aspartame in 2013 and said that it’s “safe for human consumption at current levels of exposure.”

That’s the same as saying that smoking one cigarette won’t kill you. While it’s true, why would you bother? Just so you can save an extra 30 calories?

Dumb.

And don’t forget, formaldehyde has no where to go, so it accumulates. And since aspartame got the full, unrestricted go-ahead by the FDA in 1996, we don’t know what kind of problems it can cause once the population that grew up with it, gets to middle-age.

If you choose to consume it, you’re taking a big gamble for a negligible reward.

The Better Alternative With A Proven Track Record

Luckily there is an alternative that has a proven track record of almost no side effects. When I say proven, I mean the Japanese have been using it for about four decades now. Why be the guinea pig when someone’s already done all the work for you?

My thoughts exactly.

It’s called Stevia.
