There are many pros of dieting for your mental and physical state. It can help energize you through out the day, give you the nutrients for growth and repair helping you stay strong and healthy and help to prevent diet related illness. An unhealthy diet can lead to obesity and increase a person’s risk of developing cancer. Diets rich in fruits and vegetables may help to protect against cancer. Research shows that vitamin E can prevent blood clots. Blood clots can lead to heart attacks. Almonds, peanuts, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds, and green veggies contain high levels of vitamin E. A diet w calcium and magnesium is key for strong bones and teeth. Low fat dairy products, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, canned fish with bones, tofu, and legumes are rich in calcium. The best sources for magnesium is leafy greens, nuts, seeds, and whole grains. There is a close relationship between dieting and moods. A healthy diet can improve your mood. In 2016 researchers found that in a diet with a high glycemic load may cause increased symptoms of depression and fatigue. A diet with high glycemic includes carbs, soft drinks, cakes, white bread, and biscuits. Dieting can also help prevent dementia and cognitive decline. A study from 2015 identified nutrients such as vitamin D, C, and E, omega-3 fatty acids, and fish improve memory.

Helpful Tips:

  • swapping soda for tea or water
  • eating no meat for at least 1 day a week
  • produce makes up at least 50% of your meal
  • swapping cow milk for plant based milk
  • eating whole fruits instead of drinking juices
  • avoid processed foods
  • more protein
