Hypoglycemia is a condition caused by a very low level of blood sugar , your body’s main energy source. Hypoglycemia can range all the way to diabetes if not handled properly. Hypoglycemia occurs when your blood sugar levels reach too far down. When you eat, your body breaks down carbohydrates from foods — such as bread, rice, pasta, vegetables, fruit and milk products into various sugar molecules, including glucose.

Being one who has it, it comes as a struggle especially being a teen, My ideal meal comes with lots of protein and little to no carbohydrates or sugars. However, when my blood sugar levels go down a candy bar (with protein) helps raise them back up. When I first got diagnosed with hypoglycemia i passed out. My mom had taken me to the doctors to get blood work done, they had me drink a sugary drink and take my blood every 2 hours. After the first couple of tubes of blood were drawn, i was already shaky. Then it came to my second session of drawing blood and twenty minutes after i was asleep on the doctors table. Right then my mom and doctor knew what was wrong.

When hypoglycemia occurs is when you haven’t eaten or skipped a meal. When you have to much sugar you have mood swings, pale skin, irritability, and fatigue. When this happens it is just a wave and goes up and down repeatedly (shown in the graph). However hypERglycemia is completely different. Hyperglycemia is an excess of glucose in the bloodstream, often associated with diabetes.
