ADDIng to the Team — Welcome Our New Board Member

ADDI is pleased to welcome our newest board member — Ayana Wilson. Ayana says she’s excited to work with an organization that is focused on increasing access to technology and building skill sets in the next generation so that they may advance their communities.

Ayana, who was born in San Antonio, Texas and grew up a military brat — living in Louisiana and Oklahoma — is now the Director of Student Activities at American University in Washington D.C. Her prior positions include Associate Director of Campus Life at Florida International University as well as the Assistant Center Coordinator of Sooner Housing Center at the University of Oklahoma. She holds a BA in Psychology and Certificate in Women’s Studies from the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma, as well as a Masters of Education, with a focus on Adult and Higher Education, from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK.

Ayana says she has a passion for “educating and building the resiliency of young adults, particularly students of color, as they navigate college.” She says she feels it’s extremely important to get young women involved in fields traditionally dominated by males. “The more we are able to remove gender stereotypes for specific fields, the better our economy will become,” she says. “I think that young girls are already interested in the fields, but don’t see themselves reflected enough to know that they too can be educators, scholars and leaders in these areas.”
