Teens think that their web skills are too good. But in practice they perform worse than adults. Their impatience, undeveloped abilities in research subjects, and low reading skills are obstacles for them.

The world of technology is developing day by day. The majority of people using technology are young people. Technology has become so integrated into the lives of young people that it is more important than ever to create useful and usable websites and apps for them. To succeed in a world where the next best thing is a click away and text message interruptions are the rule, not the exception, website and app creators need a clear understanding of what young people want and how to keep them on a site.

Basically, it is necessary to ask the following question: why do teens use the internet? Contrary to popular belief, according to research, young people do not use the internet just to spend their free time. Like adults, they have certain purposes when using the Internet. Some of their purposes are learning about new topics, talking with friends, homeworks, shopping, news, entertainment.

There are 3 issues that young people fail to use the internet:
1. Inadequate reading skills
2. Their impatience
3. Low research skills

While developing the website and application, these 3 issues should be taken into consideration.

Content Layouts

We mentioned that young people are impatient. Create content for impatient users. The biggest mistake to make is using too much text. Reading too much causes young people to lose interest. They want immediate access to the information they want.

The reason why young people use more applications than the website is that they do not want to focus on a very large screen at the same time. Too small text on websites and too much content on a single page cause them to be distracted.

Professional Design

Young people mostly complain about boring websites. However, being too fancy and looking messy can also cause them to hate a website. Young people have aesthetic taste and they want to see this aesthetic on the websites they use.

I am speed.

Whatever you do, make sure your site loads fast. If it is slow, you’ll lose. There is nothing to do.

Speed should be your top concern when uploading high quality, large files to a website. If it’s going to slow down, not at all. Because young people will not be patient even to see it. Fancy features and high-definition multimedia may not work well, as teens often work on older, second-hand devices and sometimes have slow internet connections.

Recent studies show that young people have more mobile devices than tablets and computers. This shows that young people want to see the content in their hands. They tend to be more touch gestures than complex gestures. Highly readable, touch-friendly designs will be more appropriate.

Although the general perception depicts that young people are technology experts, we have conveyed that this is not the case in practice. False experiences may arise due to overconfidence and that perception. Unfortunately, the wrong user experience caused by the mistakes made causes the young people to lose their interest and not realize the purpose of the application.
