If you’ve set a goal of protecting your privacy in 2020, these search engines are a good starting point.

1. DuckDuckGo

DuckDuckGo is the most popular private search engine. It recently passed 50 million daily searches. DuckDuckGo’s main value proposition is that it doesn’t track you and use that information to serve targeted advertisements on other websites you visit.

2. Startpage

Startpage, established in 2000, is one of the oldest private search engines on the internet, originally known as Ixquick. One thing that sets Startpage apart from other private search engines is that it gets its results from Google. Startpage returns Google results anonymously without the tracking that is otherwise associated with Google’s products.

Note: Startpage was recently acquired by System1, which is a company specializing in targeted advertising. Some privacy advocates find this concerning, but Startpage’s privacy features remain intact.

3. Ghostpeek
