We are thrilled to announce that Digita recently participated in the prestigious Stat-Hackathon 2024, held on May 30–31 at the University of Bergamo. This two-day event was a hub of innovation, collaboration, and competition, bringing together bright minds from various universities to tackle real-world challenges using statistical analysis, modelling, and data visualization.

A Glimpse into Stat-Hackathon 2024

The Stat-Hackathon, sponsored by the Department of Economics, was a remarkable event where teams of students competed to solve case studies provided by five partner companies:

The hackathon’s goal was to analyze and present solutions for real datasets, reflecting the complex problems faced in the industry today.

Day 1 Highlights:

The event kicked off with a welcome address, followed by presentations from the partner companies. Digita had the honor of presenting its case study at 9:55 AM, showcasing the intricate challenges and opportunities within our dataset.

After the presentations, student teams were randomly matched with the partner companies. This was an invaluable opportunity for students to discuss the case study in detail with industry professionals, gaining insights and clarifications before diving into the hackathon.

The Hackathon Begins: Students worked tirelessly through the day and night, utilizing machine learning and statistical tool such as R, Jupyter, Phyton and collaboration tools like MS Teams and Slack to interact with company tutors and ensure their projects were on the right track.

Day 2 Highlights:

The following day, teams presented their projects. From Team 1’s “Machine Gun Learning” to Team 5’s “The Gematrists,” each group showcased their unique approaches and innovative solutions. Ineed Gematrist was the team assigned to DIG:ITA!

A committee of esteemed judges, including our own Edoardo Cella and Farzaneh Shahrezaei from DIGITA, evaluated the projects based on complexity, quality, creativity, and efficiency. The event concluded with an award ceremony where the top three teams received prizes from the University of Bergamo.

Nativo Digitale Program

Our participation in the Stat-Hackathon aligns perfectly with the objectives of the Nativo Digitale program, which we have elaborated on in previous articles on Medium. The program emphasizes bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world applications, preparing students for the dynamic demands of the digital industry.

In our earlier articles, we highlighted the importance of practical experience and real-time problem-solving. The Stat-Hackathon is a prime example of this philosophy in action. By engaging with students through such initiatives, we not only contribute to their professional growth but also stay at the forefront of innovative solutions and fresh perspectives.

Continuing the Journey

At DIGITA, we are committed to fostering talent and innovation. Participating in events like the Stat-Hackathon not only reinforces our dedication to these values but also strengthens our collaboration with academic institutions like the University of Bergamo. We look forward to more such opportunities to engage with young talents and drive the future of digital and statistical sciences.

Stay tuned for more updates on our initiatives and collaborations. Together, we are shaping a brighter, data-driven future!
