Fast Fashion Route — Harmless or Harmful?
Finding something that two people have in common can be easy yet challenging. A digital author that I was looking for was a young woman, preferably in her twenties who I can relate to. Maybe a college student, fashion designer, or vlogger. In my personal life, I am interested in fashion. My partner and I were easy going. We found a digital author with both of our interests. Mina Le was the perfect person.
Who is Mina Le? Mina is a fashion and culture commentator who uses YouTube and TikTok to address her audience. Her audience attracts people who are interested in fashion, TikTok, and culture commentary. She started her YouTube channel in May of 2020 where she holds 1.28 million subscribers with 80+ million views. She is Vietnamese-American, 26 years old and based in Brooklyn, New York. The purpose of this video was to bring awareness to the problematic trends she sees within the fashion industry through social media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. Her argument discusses that clothing hauls promote overconsumption because the cheapest way to get new clothes is through the fast fashion route.
I truly enjoy the way that Mina edits her videos. First, she labels her sections so the viewer knows what’s expected. Additionally, she uses jokes and different editing techniques to put emphasis on what she’s saying. Lastly, she quotes many sources. She puts the text over several images and short clips while reading from that text. I think this is important because she is giving more importance to her argument while giving other sources credit.
