There is no such thing as “one beer” — unknown author

Introduction

Having written more than a dozen of articles on Medium in the last year, I recently decided to consolidate some of them into a publication. If you don’t know what it is, a publication is similar to a category of articles on a given topic.

In my view, there are few benefits of publications vs simple stories:

  • branding is possible (custom domain + visual design)
  • statistics and analytics could be more advanced
  • it’s an easy way to separate subjects

For choosing a good name, I got help from friends (brainstorming as they call it) and then there were few rounds of feedback. And there you go, that’s how the publication about digital beer was born!

Why beer?

Firstly, I really like it :)

Secondly, beer saved the world!

Also, I currently live in Belgium. It’s a Disneyland of beer! There are all sorts of beers which you can’t taste in any other country. That has been proven in many ways, the most non-scientific for me being the common topic in my French classes: what do people love about Belgium.

Go and check the open data about Belgium Beer styles for more info ;)

Why digital?

Having a beer while discussing code is a common thing in many communities. Actually, sometimes buying a thank-you-beer to an open source contributor, say after an event, opens a real friendship and opportunity to share.

That’s the vision of the publication — to gather thoughts that interest tech geeks, presenting the information in an easy and friendly way, inspiring further sharing and good feeling.

Authors and editors are welcome

Branding is under construction since it’s of minor importance and it takes quite some time to set up at Medium.

Yet, I welcome contributions of any sort which speak out the vision of the publication :)
