Everyone knows that we spend too many hours at work and, not just because of that, we should feel good where we are working. It should be kept in mind that it is work and not leisure, and therefore, we must also acknowledge that we accumulate responsibilities.

A good work environment is one where you can be authentic, where you can express yourself and carry out your tasks according to the skills that led to your being selected for the job. Moreover, a good work environment respects differences, recognizes merits, and maintains transparency at all times.

It is quite easy to understand the role of leadership in creating a good work environment, but what about the role of the employees in this? It’s surprising that the qualities required from the company are almost the same: transparency, recognition of the company’s actions, the ability to listen, and being authentic in your actions.

The work environment is not just the place where we perform our activities. For example, I have felt more comfortable in companies that required a dress code than in others where I could work in sandals. After all, respecting differences also means accepting people from different generations and ensuring that the spaces are not hostile to them. Nothing is less democratic than a dictatorship of the majority.

Valuing people and ensuring a good work environment should be a constant concern of the company, yes, but it is also a daily task for each employee. When you enter your workplace, whether in person or online, try to leave your vanity and often technical arrogance at the door, and practice empathy daily. By doing so, you will contribute to a better work environment. Be an agent of change! Start today and start with yourself!
