Introduction to NCWIT

The name of my group is NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Community which is a secret Facebook group for young women who have won the National Center for Women & Information Technology Aspirations in Computing Award in high school. This group is constantly active with girls posting discussions, asking questions, sharing interesting articles, and giving advice to younger women, since the members are still part of the group long after they finish high school. The majority of the content is STEM/school related, which is why I plan to research about how this online community helps to fight the gender gap in STEM fields.

WIP Thesis: Digital communities have created another platform of communication, making it possible for groups to like NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Community to network people and create a space to help fight the gender gap in STEM related fields.
