The United Nations on Medium
Many UN agencies and offices are active on Medium: here who to follow.
The United Nations system represents the international organization with the largest presence on Medium. And while the UN Secretariat has profiles and pages on Twitter, Facebook, and many other social media networks, it is not yet on Medium, nor is the UN Secretary-General.

UN programs and funds
The most followed and active UN account on Medium is UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, with almost 62,000 followers (in addition to its local accounts), a total of 8 publications in 5 languages, and active profiles of many of its local and regional offices, including UNICEF Afghanistan, UNICEF Asia Pacific, UNICEF Brasil, UNICEF Cambodia, Unicef CHAD, UNICEF Côte d'Ivoire, UNICEF France, UNICEF in Guinea, UNICEF Iraq, UNICEF Island, UNICEF Pacific, UNICEF Philippines, UNICEF Portugal, UNICEF Sierra Leone, and UNICEF Sudan.
UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, is the second most popular on Medium with more than 26,700 followers.
It is followed by UN Development, the United Nations Development Program (with 23,300 readers), which count many local and regional accounts as well, including UNDP Eurasia and UNDP Somalia.
The UN Refugee Agency — known as UNHCR, or the UN High Commissioner for Refugees — is also on Medium, with almost 22,000 followers. It counts a few active local and regional profiles, including UNHCR Syria.
The UN World Food Programme (WFP) is next with almost 20,500 followers.
It is followed by UNEP, the United Nations Environmental Programme with around 14,700 readers.
UN specialized agencies
The World Bank is among the most popular UN specialized agencies on Medium with a total of 47,700 followers. Online on Medium IFC, the International Finance Corporation, one of the World Bank Group’s entities, with 2 active publications.
WHO, the World Health Organization, is also on Medium (with more than 33,000 followers) although it has not posted anything yet.
Other UN entities, offices, and related organizations
United Nations OCHA, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, counts 7,600 followers on Medium.
UN SDSN, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, follows with almost 4,000 readers and 2 publications on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Also on Medium Ahmad Alhendawi, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, and its office UN Youth Envoy, with a total of around 2,000 followers.
The United Nations University (UNU) runs the Medium profile Our World Magazine and is followed by almost 600 readers.
