President Donald Trump announced late Friday, July 31st, the Chinese app TikTok may be banned in the US within hours.

Microsoft was reportedly in talks with ByteDance about taking over US operations when Trump spoke with reporters traveling on Air Force One. Initially, the President urged ByteDance, who owns TikTok, to turn its US operations to an American company. Trump told reporters he’s now not comfortable with that type of move.

“As far as TikTok is concerned, we’re banning them from the United States,” Trump said. He confirmed the ban could go into effect as early as the following day.
