Lumphini Park: the good, the bad, and the ugly things you will find there.

Bangkok is an immense city that caters for many different tastes. It can be hard for the nature lover to get a whole lot out of the city. But there are a few places to visit which will give you a sense of being in a natural environment. Lumphini Park is one place in Bangkok where you can go to get out of the big city vibe.

Getting there

It seems very easy on the map. However, the traffic is heavy, and the crossing is multilane.

Step 1: Get off at Silom metro station

Step 2: Cross the road. This can be difficult as cars are notorious for not stopping for pedestrians.

Step 3: Left, or right? I walked right once crossing the road. I just followed some locals and was there.

Step 4: Identifying the entrance. A decent stretch of road leads to the entrance. Very easy to miss. But you can make out trees and the glimmer of water.

The Lakes

There are three lakes which make up the main area of the park. You can hire a pedal boat or rowboat between 9 am and 6 pm. When I was there, I didn’t see many people on the water. As the water was murky and full of trash that blew in…
