CAMPING/THIS HAPPENED TO ME

A Rant About Camping Quiet Hours Etiquette

That night arrival who has to do everything when they arrive late

We have been camping in a state park for the better part of the last month now. We’ve heard and seen plenty of wild things. The one thing that irks me more than anything is the people who aren’t mindful of their surroundings and do annoying shit.

Tonight, after my partner and I got out of the campground shower in the shared bathroom, I saw that we had a new neighbor. But before I could even see them. I definitely heard them. They were outside backing their trailer into their spot right next to us.

They also had to jack up their trailer very loudly to announce their arrival at 11 pm. Then they started slamming doors and shuffling all around. They didn’t know for sure that no one was in the camper next to them at the present moment. We could’ve been sleeping and all of that noise could’ve woke us up and disturbed our peace.

Luckily, we were in the shower finishing up both of our respective showers when all of this was going on.

The next thing that they did was also irritating. They started revving their engine when they realized they weren’t set properly. Not just a soft rev either. That rev could be heard from the shower. Someone could easily hear that within a few campsites away.

Then they decided, “Hey, we’re at camp, and didn’t fill up our water tanks before we got here. Let’s do it with the shared water spigot across our spot almost 25 feet away.” They attached their hose extended out across the one-way road.

Enough of a blockage that when we got out, we had to go around it to get back to our site. Just imagine if someone had to drive through that and couldn’t see that thin water tube. I honestly would’ve laughed if someone drove through that late just to foil their ill-prepared setup.

To top this all off, they kept going in and out of both bathrooms. The doors slam on this specific door so all we heard were multiple slams as we were in the shower. How rude!! That can also be heard during quiet hours.

I sure hope that they get settled in fairly quickly. I don’t want to hear any more loud noises when I’m getting ready for bed. Also, I don’t want to hear any excessive noise coming from within the trailer either. It’s past 11 pm and quiet time is there for a reason. Especially when you’re super close to another camper who’s just trying to enjoy their stay.

All I’m saying with this rant is if you arrive somewhere late, do the bare essentials, and be careful and aware of your surroundings. Just don’t be these people. These people are the reason some people hate to camp. They can potentially ruin it for anyone who has to tolerate it.

Luckily for us, this is something we do every summer regardless of the other inconsiderate bastards that might come through. We’ve endured a ton of excessive partying, noise, and other mild annoyances over our multiple summers at this state park now. I just know that some people aren’t as tolerant of this kind of flippant rule-breaking. Word of caution to anyone who is these people.
