Explore Miami’s Best 6 Activities
A journey of discovery, adventure, and relaxation
On the first week of June, I took a vacation to Miami and South Beach. It was not the best time to visit — with summer’s heat and humidity — but I still left with some quite interesting impressions (and some sunburns).
Instead of boring you with minutiae about every grain of sand on the beach, I’ll hit you with my six favorite highlights.
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens
A former estate and now a museum, Vizcaya was built in the early 1900s by businessman James Deering in the style of an Italian Renaissance villa. (Apparently, he was a fan of architecture that screams “I set up shop on the Florida coast because Europe got too mainstream.”)
It’s the №1 attraction listed on TripAdvisor, but honestly, I didn’t expect much since I’ve been to Italy and snooped around plenty of New England estates. How different could an estate in Florida be?
Turns out, quite different. The uniqueness stems from how quickly things corrode here due to hurricanes — free “rustic” aesthetic for the win! The buildings looked older than they were, giving Vizcaya an ancient charm that felt like a historic Instagram filter.
