Monsoon season in Kerala, a small state in southern India. Pouring rain. One day when there was no rain, my friends and I decided to go on a trip. But where?

Many of my friends only have a single day off. So you have to choose a place that you can go to and come from quickly. That’s when a suggestion came to go to Athirapilly.

Athirapilli Waterfalls. A favorite shooting location of many famous filmmakers. The number of films shot there is uncountable. “Barso re” danced by the former Miss World Aishwarya Rai, “Jiya Jale” by Bollywood’s Shah Rukh Khan, and “Bahubali: the beginning” are just a few examples.

A forest rich in biodiversity that stretches like a green carpet. The Chalakudy River flowing through it falls into the Arabian Sea.

The rain just stopped when we reached there. Many people who walk there hold a long stick in their hands. At first, I didn’t understand what it was for, but later I understood it was to drive away the monkeys. Monkey nuisance is severe there.

If you take a ticket and walk for a while, you can reach the upper part of the waterfall. Many were bathing there. The water was not clear as crystal, but it was refreshing watching the river rushing through the forest at a fast pace.

It was when we descended from there to go to the lower part that the true form of Athirapilly was revealed. As we descended the stairs, the water drops slowly started falling on our bodies. If there was also the wind, we would’ve come down wet and drenched. But I must admit, Athirapilly waterfalls will satisfy a natural beauty connoisseur in every way.
