I Went to Bali and Was Deeply Disappointed
The place known for offering the most unforgettable experiences can no longer afford it.
I thought that going to Bali would feel like stepping into a dream. I had always seen it as a magical place, a paradise where digital nomads build their businesses, make the coolest friends, and find success.
Since I was a kid, I had heard about the wealthiest people choosing Bali for their honeymoons, flooding the media with pictures and videos showcasing its paradise-like beauty.
And then there were the surfers — Bali was their ultimate destination, a place to ride the waves and soak in the laid-back vibe. I imagined making it my paradise too, even if only for 8 days.
I was wrong…
The first time I heard about Bali was in a book called ‘’Eat, Pray, Love’’ by Elizabeth Gilbert, where she visits three countries starting with the letter “I” and finds love and balance upon returning to Bali.
You can imagine where my expectations were set. My partner and I carefully booked the best spots, chose to visit during the shoulder season to avoid the peak tourist crowds, gathered top recommendations from friends and travel blogs, and expected nothing less than an unforgettable experience in Bali.
