Should you visit the Winchester Mystery House when in California?

I say yes. That’s because I’m a California native willing to recommend the cool places to see.

Winchester Mystery House is something you grow up with in California. Whether you live in SoCal or NorCal, you hear about it from friends. It’s always put on the list of things to see.

Why is it so popular?

The name Winchester refers to the Winchester rifle company started in the 1800s. After the founder died, he left his wife in charge of the vast family fortune.

She was superstitious and believed that the souls of people who had been killed by a Winchester rifle were haunting the earth. Specifically at her mansion in San Jose.

She consulted with Psychics and Mediums as to what to do.

Many doors to nowhere

It was suggested she build doors that wouldn’t open so as to confuse the spirits or ghosts in the hope they would leave the grounds.
