Pyongyang at last

To pick up on the story of my adventure to North Korea, we arrived at our hotel in Pyongyang just after eight o’clock which was fortunate as the hot water is turned on at 8 pm. I headed straight for a beautiful hot shower — heaven! Our room is huge — it has a separate lounge area and a big bedroom and bathroom. They are trying very hard to attain a high standard but just miss the mark. The stained carpet in the hall and stains on my towels were the most noticeable. No tissues in the tissue box were a disappointment and the bed is hard. Feeling fresh, I headed down to the hotel restaurant for dinner. The food just kept coming — yummy salad first followed by spicy soup, rice, fried fish that I thought was chicken until I got a bone, spaghetti bolognese. (yes, in Korea!)

I kept wondering who had brought in the recipe — it was so out of character with the rest of the meal — and finally, tempura vegetables which I barely tasted before…
