Shining the Light On This Writer — Adrienne Beaumont

Linda Ng tagged me when she wrote about her writing background. Here is my attempt to join in by answering the same questions.
I was an editor on Medium way before I was a writer. It was only with Katie Michaelson’s encouragement that I started to write. My daughter Keeley Schroder is a writer and shared a month’s worth of 500-word writing prompts with me in December 2020. Some of my 500-word stories were okay, and some were pure rubbish. I realised I’m not consistent in my writing ability.
When did you start writing?
Well, obviously, at school, I wrote essays. I wasn’t any better at writing than I was at other subjects. I was good at maths (I still am), an excellent speller (I still am), but my favourite subject at primary school was social studies — history and geography. I still love both!
In high school, I was put in a straight academic class so never learned to type or cook or sew. I still can’t! I loved all my school subjects and was pretty good at all of them which made choosing a degree difficult. My best subjects were English and French and Maths and Chemistry so I enrolled in an Arts/Science degree — one of only two students who attempted this. I rarely went to lectures so failed everything.
