The Heat Index Toppled 100 Degrees For The First Time This Year in Erie
Officially, it topped out at 107 degrees for the real feel and the high was 88°F (31°C)
Uncomfortably hot weather…in June, and a bit of relief
Man, was it uncomfortably hot today!! It’s not even officially summer yet but June 15th has recorded the hottest day of the year so far. I don’t think I even want to know what summer has in store for us this year. So far, the extended forecast looks like it’ll be mostly in the 70s and 80s.
The biggest break in the 10-day forecast is Friday and Saturday. Saturday will go back down to somewhere in the range of 68–70 degrees. It’ll be cloudy as well and the overnight lows won’t stay oppressive as it has been the last couple of days. It won’t even cool below 75 degrees tonight.
Tomorrow is more of the same and humidity like a laundry room
Tomorrow, there will be a chance of thunderstorms with some rain moving in and cooling things temporarily but that’ll only be brief as after the precipitation passes, the temperature will still be around 80 degrees.
It’s supposed to be about the same temperature as it was today with more cloud cover and the chance of extreme weather. This will make tomorrow seem like it’ll be as uncomfortable as today.
Just walking outside and observing what I thought would be cooler hours after 8 pm, the outside still felt like a laundry room after a few dryers have been running for a couple of hours. The temperature is still in the 80s even at 9:30 PM tonight.
Advisories for people in the area
I would recommend that if you’re in the area and you don’t need to go outside, don’t. If you are outside, you should ensure that you are wearing sun protection and getting plenty of hydration. The recommended amount of water won’t cut it on such an unpleasantly warm day.
For those with health conditions, it is not advisable to be out in the weather for an extended period of time. Please check on children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems frequently. One of my friends in the area today says that her kids have been in the pool all day long because it’s been so hot.
Stay near water if you can and travel accordingly
As long as you have the necessary sunscreen and UV protection, this is definitely a fine thing to do. Presque Isle’s beaches, I’m sure, were packed today. As would have been anything near any body of water in the area.
Honestly, I think I feel most bad for the people who have to work outside on a day like today. I think we should take a moment to commemorate their dedication and commitment to their jobs.
Anyway, this weather post about today was just to give those in the area a shoutout and let people outside of the area know what’s going on here. Anyway, if you’re coming to travel from out of town to here. Pack swimsuits. Dress appropriately, and bring plenty of water. Tomorrow will be another warm one so stay as cool as you possibly can.
