India is the seventh largest country in the world, with a rich history and a multilingual, multi-ethnic society. With Mughal Palaces, remnants of ancient Indian Kingdoms, and a myriad of temples, there is no shortage of sites to visit. However, there is one place in particular that I believe gets overlooked: Falaknuma Palace. I want to share the rich background of this truly beautiful piece of architecture and why it is worth checking out.

Background:

Falaknuma Palace is located in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, in India. It was built by Nawab Sir Viqar-ul-Umura, the prime minister of Hyderabad in 1884, who was inspired to create a European-styled residence after a trip abroad. After 10 years, construction was completed and the residence was later given to the Nizam of Hyderabad in 1897. The palace cost around 4 million rupees (approximately $20 million in 2020). The residence served as a guest house for visiting royal dignitaries, such as King George V of the United Kingdom and Tsar Nicholas II of Russia.

Architecture:
