Last year, during the Easter weekend, we decided to visit Cardiff, the capital and largest city of Wales. While Cardiff might not be a popular option when compared to the cities like Edinburgh and London in the UK, we still wanted to give it a chance to surprise us. With another month left on our UK visa and the prospect of discovering something new, we landed in Cardiff.

When we googled things to do in Cardiff, one of the things that came on the list was their waterfalls. We thought it would be a nice change to spend more time in nature than in the city itself. But, we were completely oblivious that the walk/hike to the waterfalls wouldn’t be a walk in the park; instead, it could be difficult and potentially dangerous. Brace yourself for an unexpected story unfolding ahead.

Fast forward to the day we arrived in Cardiff, the city surprised us with its serene and beautiful landscape. Cardiff proved to be a delightful surprise and had a lot to offer. Our first stop was exploring the Rhossili Bay:

I read in one of the timeout articles that it has been referred to as the ‘supermodel of British beaches.

Although the weather wasn’t sunny and the water was a bit cold, it felt like we were already getting into the summer mood. Next, we visited Cardiff Bay, where we went for a speed boat, another thrilling experience. Then, there was the city center that would transform itself from a quiet morning with an older population to a buzzing evening with a younger crowd. It was as though we were in a completely different city altogether.

Finally, the day came when we started our journey to see some of the beautiful waterfalls we had read about. The waterfalls were approximately an hour away from Cardiff, so we decided to take an Uber from the Cardiff Bay area. While we were in the cab, the driver, who seemed to be a local, expressed a keen interest in showing us around after learning about our plans. He mentioned that he had previously visited the waterfalls several times with his family and kids and offered to be our guide.

He seemed to have a genuine idea about the waterfalls, so we decided to take a leap of faith and follow him to see the waterfalls. Little did we know that it would turn out to be one of the most adventurous experiences we would ever have. The trail was full of big rocks and slippery areas, where one wrong step could put our lives in danger. Our guide seemed to be climbing all the rocks and areas around the waterfalls so smoothly that we were amazed. The path was also quite steep in some places, but we were also determined to follow our leader and try our best not to fall.

We finally made it to the spot where we could see a beautiful waterfall in all its glory. The picture speaks for itself and needs no words. All this would not have been possible if that one man wouldn’t have volunteered to be our guide. I wouldn’t have imagined us coming so far if not for him.

Our guide offered to take us to more waterfalls, but we were content with seeing the first one and proud of our accomplishment because it’s not every day you set out for such an adventure. The waterfall adventure is worth it!

This experience reminded me that life is full of surprises, and sometimes, it’s best to keep moving forward and trust that everything will work out as it should, even if that means embracing uncertainty. It’s in these moments of uncertainty that beautiful things can happen, things that we could never have planned for or anticipated.
