Himachalis are the sweetest people I have ever met.

I was touched by the gestures of these localities; they welcomed me home long before I’d even had a chance to introduce myself.

Burwa, a quaint village nestled in the heart of Himachal Pradesh in Manali, became my unexpected haven for a few days.

Its warm, inviting energy pulled me out of my urban shell and into a world where human connection wasn’t a luxury but a way of life.

It’s good to wake up to gorgeous mountain views, but having people who have the best of intentions is a cherry on the cake!

I spent my days wandering through the village, a solo traveller in a land of open hearts.

Usually, I’m pretty guarded, but these people were so sweet, it was impossible not to open up. It felt like I was part of the community in no time.

Lost in the Himachali Hospitality

I met this humble lady named Rajni in Burwa village.

She had this incredible energy, like the mountains themselves. I loved talking to her about her life.

She got comfortable with me sooner than I thought. She talked about growing apples and managing her money in a way that made me realize how simple life can be. It was really inspiring!

She saw me admiring her home, like I was seeing something for the first time.

She was so thoughtful about inviting me in for a tour. I mean, who does that anymore, especially in the city? It felt like a totally different world.

Her house was like stepping back in time. It was a world untouched by modernity, where every corner whispered tales of generations past.

The intricate wood carvings on the walls, the aroma of freshly grown greens, and the gentle mooing of cows in the nearby shed created a symphony of rural life.

Every corner was a story waiting to be told. I was totally captivated!

Being there made me realize how special this simple way of life is and that it’s slowly disappearing.

She gave me the most beautiful scarf as a gift. It’s more than just a pretty accessory; it’s a reminder of her kindness and our special connection.

Heartwarming Stories

The kids were a bit shy at first, but their smiles were contagious once they saw themselves on camera.

I came back with some chocolates, and their eyes lit up when they saw me.

It felt like I’d won a lottery watching their happy faces. Those simple moments, like sharing a candy with these little wonders, reminded me of what truly matters in life.

I loved exploring the village and meeting the locals. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming.

I remember this amazing woman (the one with sunglasses), full of life and spirit. She’d never left her village but dreamed of seeing the world.

It made me think about how lucky we are to have choices.

Every interaction, from the old lady eating apples to the kids shying away, filled my heart with joy.

The kids waving goodbye as I left felt like saying goodbye to a part of my heart.

The Himachali people are just the best! They always have a smile on their faces and a kind heart.

They’ve learned to live happy lives without a lot, and that’s really inspiring. It taught me to appreciate what I have and to keep going no matter what.

Everyone is always welcome, it doesn't matter if you’re a part of their community or not.

Three Things I Learned from These People:

The Power of Genuine Connection:

In today’s world, where it’s all about likes and comments, the people of Himachal showed me the real value of connecting with others face-to-face.

Finding Joy in Simplicity:

They were totally happy with just the basics, while we’re always chasing the next big thing.

It made me realize that life’s little moments are what really matter.

Resilience in the Face of Adversity:

Living in a place that often faces tough times, the people of Himachal are really strong.

They never give up, no matter what life throws at them. Their spirit is incredible, and they have taught me so much more about life.

And then there were the houses!

Those old wooden homes, standing tall amidst the mountains, were like characters from a storybook.

They whispered tales of the past and made me feel connected to something bigger than myself.

These houses, often referred to as Kath Kuni structures, depict the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the region’s people.

The term “Kath Kuni” literally translates to “wood and corner,” highlighting the unique construction technique where wooden beams are interlocked at the corners, creating a sturdy and resilient framework.

The interiors are often adorned with intricate wood carvings, showcasing the artistic skills of the local craftsmen.

The construction techniques and architectural styles have been passed down through generations, ensuring the preservation of this unique heritage.

Where every corner tells a story: Himachal Pradesh

Lastly, can a place really feel like Home?

Himachal, man, it’s got a magic to it. The people, the places, and the whole vibe just pull you in.

I met some incredible humans, had chats that stayed with me, and experienced things I never thought possible.

Ten days felt like a lifetime of learning and growing. I came back a slightly different person, with a new perspective on life.

My trip to Himachal was like a journey within myself. It feels like some villages in and around Manali are made for solo travellers, digital nomads, and everyone who’s looking for that ‘ much-needed’ break from city life.

It wasn’t just about the sights but also about the people and their rich heritage. Meeting them felt like discovering a hidden part of my soul.
