The Gift That Kept Giving, Broke To $100,000 In 24 Months
How I made $100k in less than 24 months publishing books.
It was Christmas morning 2015, I opened a small box wrapped in blue wrapping paper, and upon opening it I was surprised to see a Kindle inside. I knew it was an e-reader, the problem was I never had much of an interest in reading. Of course, as we all do at Christmas, I smiled and said thanks for the gift.
Truth be told the Kindle never left the box until March of 2016. There had been a bad snowstorm and I was housebound for almost a week. Boredom got the upper hand of me and so I opened it.
I was impressed with the ease of use and was thrilled to see there were some pre-downloaded free eBooks, one was titled “49 Different Ways to Make Money Online”. I started to read it, and an hour later I was still hooked!
I stayed up pretty late that night to finish it. I remember being mind-blown. It had never really occurred to me that you could make money online as a full-time living. At the time I was unemployed, and I had taken voluntary redundancy a few months previously, but in essence I was in still in limbo.
Fast forward a couple of months and I decided I would take a chance by publishing a short eBook. I published it in June, and I will never ever forget the feeling when I logged on a few days later, someone has actually bought my eBook, and I made a total of $1.17 royalty from the sale.
Friends laughed at my excitement but I just knew that if I could make $1 online then I could make $100, then $1000 — the sky was the limit.
It was the proof I needed that confirmed this eCommerce / digital asset stuff is indeed “real”. Sometimes the internet feels surreal; because nothing is physically tangible therefore we can doubt the opportunities that really do exist in eCommerce and digital assets.
Long story short, I kept on track, researching every day and publishing more books. By December that year I was making $8000 a month.
What started as reading an eBook about making money online had turned into a very real and profitable business. Things kept going strong business-wise, which then led me to later find out about Empire Flippers. It had never even dawned on me that I could sell my business.
For me, I did not grow up around money, to have $5000 in the bank would have been a dream, to be given the opportunity to sell my business for around $70,000 was just out of this world. I heard a motivational speaker say a couple of years back that the path to wealth is easy, “simply earn more when you’re asleep than you can spend when you’re awake” and it is so true.
I remember at the time thinking that it was impossible but with KDP publishing or ecommerce, you can do just that. Even if one person takes action towards their goal of entrepreneurship after reading this article then writing this has been worthwhile.
