7 Important steps to supercharge your Youtube Video ads! (For 2022)

Welcome back! Today in this video I'm going to teach you how to create your youtube ads step by step.

I’ve been using youtube ads for years and I’ve spent thousands of dollars on youtube ads alone for my clients and myself.

To get you started you will need to log in to your Google Ads Account.

Once you are in select New Campaign,

you will then see a selection of Goals for you to have a successful campaign arranged by Google! ~ My suggestion was to select the custom campaign as it is created based on your own knowledge and decision.

You will have the flexibility to change or direct any information with this selection as compared to the others.

The next step is the Campaign Type, where our lesson today, will be Video.

Create video ads that are designed to increase reach and awareness, encourage engagement or drive conversions

From here you can choose the type of video that you want to display for your Youtube Ads.

Different type of Placement Ads
  1. Custom Video Campaign (True View Video Ads)

These types of Ads are divided into 2 category

(a) Skippable Ads

These are ads that is appearing between, before and after a video is being played. Usually, I will apply this kind of ad that give a quick view of the products, and land it on customers who have a similar interest in certain specific product type such as football channels.

(b) Video Discovery Ads

This is generally to disturb your competitors by appearing on their channels or ads. This discovery ad is extremely helpful in the way that it allows you to create exposure on the places where it is needed most, however sometimes it might be just a static image on the side, but it does impact the viewers.

2. Non-Skippable in-stream Ads

This kind of ads valid for 15s with a non-skippable function, I felt generally useful for my customer who has a message to bring across in that 15s! Such as

  • New shop opening
  • New Event
  • Latest Product update

3. Bummer Video Ads

This is mostly used for Brand awareness they are similar to Non-skippable in-stream ads, but their exposure rate is higher however their video only lasted 6s video ads, and there is a few things you need to take note

  • They can not do YouTube search result ads
  • Only valid 6s video ads

With all these being said, now we continue our ads creation with a Video Ads Campaign. While going down the selection, I will like to bring across a few sections that I generally will do for my customers.

(1) Budget for each Campaign

Budget!!!! OMG of cause is everyone concern, normally I will suggest new client try on a comfortable budget to start off their campaign to ensure that they are getting the correct combination before adding on their budget.

A comfortable budget usually depends on the industry and the keywords that match the industry. Usually, I will suggest going with 10 dollars for a ‘go’ and proceed with adding more to the budget when you are seeing the result.

(2) Networks

In this section, I will personally choose YouTube search results and the YouTube Videos Network to display my ads. Unless we are very certain that some of the websites are part of the display network and we want to place our ads on that website, other than that generally, I will disable this part of the advert.

(3) Location

You don't have to target the whole world!!! Some of my customers are local businesses, and generally, I will advise them to target their areas or their country only.

(4) Inventory type

For this section usually, we will go with recommended however for some of the customers, I will suggest Limited Inventory as YouTube will only display your ads along with those healthier or family-friendly (PG) videos.

When comes to excluded videos, I will also personally recommend it not to be displayed on Embedded YouTube Videos, the reason is that those locations might dilute your viewership and spend your money on unnecessary places.

(5) Add in Related Videos to increase the exposure

I usually will advise my client to add their other videos in the advert, to increase the possible viewership from the flow over.

(6) Demographic

I will always encourage my customers to uncheck the “Unknown” as we want to trace and conduct better analytics of our data, also better define our viewers.

(7) Placement

This is the most interesting part of the whole ads campaign where you can actually place ads on channels that you want to target.

With these 7 important steps to take note while you are creating your YouTube Ads, you can save money, and increase your viewership to those that matters.
