Anderson Cooper is a journalist, tv personality, anchor of Anderson Cooper 360 as well as a reporter for 60 Minutes. He is the son of Gloria Vanderbilt a fashion designer and a descendant of Cornelius Vanderbilt the railroad baron and the former owner of the Breakers Mansion in Newport.

Cooper is openly gay and is an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights throughout his career. He frequently addresses issues of sexuality, identity and equality in his reporting and has been praised for his courage and honesty in discussing his own experiences.

Anderson Cooper takes us on a deeply personal exploration of loss and grief. He decides to begin his podcast series while packing up the apartment of his late mother Gloria Vanderbilt. This apartment is where his mother lived until she passed away at the age of 95. It is also the home where he lost his father to a heart attack at a young age and later his brother Carter to suicide. This apartment holds a lot of painful memories but also happy ones. There are memories of a wonderful life his mother experienced and documented. Anderson goes through her journals and keepsakes, as well as things left behind by his father and brother.

Since Anderson lost the last member of his close family, going through the content of the apartment is his way of remembering. It is a way of fighting loneliness and focusing on the good.

The podcast begins by exploring Vanderbilt’s life. It continues into examining grief and all that comes with it. Anderson talks with friends and tv personalities as well as average people to learn how they have dealt with loss. With the help of their insights and humor, he hopes to understand the grieving process better.

Another episode of his podcast Anderson reflects on the suicide of his brother Carter, and the impact that loss still has on his life today. “ Do we ever move on from grief”? Cooper asks “ or do we just learn to live with it”?

This podcast takes us on a deeply personal exploration of loss and grief.

“Grief doesn’t just go away, no matter how hard we may want it to, so how can we live with it and learn from it”? Asks Cooper.

This podcast is about the people we lose, the people left behind, and how we can live on with loss and with love.

I chose this podcast due to losing both of my parents and how their deaths have affected my personally. Losing someone we love is a deeply painful experience that will inevitably touch all of us at some point in our lives.

While the pain of loss many never fully disappear, finding ways to cope and move forward is essential for healing. It is important to allow ourselves to grieve and feel the range of emotions that come from loss. Ultimately, moving on from loss is a gradual process that requires time, and that it is okay to feel sadness, but to also find joy and peace.
