  1. Maheshwari, S., & Holpuch, A. (2023, March 3). Why is the U.S. forcing TikTok to be sold or banned? The New York Times. https://www.nytimes.com/article/tiktok-ban.html

The first question we must ask comes down to why is there a need to get rid of tik tok in the first place. If you ask the majority of people, especially the younger population, they would say that the way they get their information comes from TikTok which does have information, the question is whether it is true or not. The main concern when it comes to Tik Tok according to this article comes down to the hands of China, and the fear of how much personal information they are getting from the United States. Many countries such as India and New Zealand have also banned all China apps with the fear of them having the information.

This article reviews the following concepts about how much of a hit China would take when it comes to TikTok getting banned but it brings up a point that is very important. The article discusses something more deeper. The ban could also have a large effect when it comes to the economy as China could take a huge hit with a huge population country such as the United States. Not only could this have an economic impact, however it could go even further with the article mentioning a retaliation from China while it could be a possibility if the U.S continue the ban.

3. Kent, J. L. (2024, April 27). Possible tiktok ban leaves some small businesses concerned for their survival. CBS News. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/possible-tiktok-ban-small-businesses-concerned-survival/

A great way for small businesses to grow their business and get their information in the right crowd. This Ban could take away this opportunity for people and could even start a small uprising within the country. While other apps can be used for marketing, Tik Tik has been a huge platform used by many people and how much it can help companies grow. The article describes how much instagram rules are similar however does not have the same impact when it comes to selling the product.

4. Hadero, H. (2024, April 24). Senate passes bill forcing Tiktok’s parent company to sell or face U.S. ban. PBS. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/senate-passes-bill-forcing-tiktoks-parent-company-to-sell-or-face-u-s-ban

This is a fantastic article as it really does a great job of showing what the people on tiktok are actually doing to fight this ban and how it is bigger than this is. This article gives the side of how people feel as if Tik Tok is a safe app rather than people fearing their information giving away. All of this tension is causing massive lawsuits forming against tiktok and the president.

This article is one of the most important following ones as when the ban occurs it needs clarification on what is actually happening. Many people have the idea that Joe Biden has already signed this bill and the Tiktok ban is already in place, however this is not the case as Biden signed a proposal. Although many sides are coming out about how important TikTok is, the main threat is security and how much information can be received from China. This is a very potential move in the short future which is a huge sense of the fear for the people who are trying to make a difference using Tik Tok

7. Senate Republican leader backs legislation to force Chinese divestment of Tiktok | Reuters. (n.d.). https://www.reuters.com/world/us/senate-republican-leader-backs-legislation-force-chinese-divestment-tiktok-2024-04-08/ `

I selected this article because of the fact of how the banning of Tik Tok is not necessarily biased to a political party. With most of the topics in the United States, it is split between two political parties and the ideas are centralized around the belief of the party. However when it comes to the banning of TikTok, both political sides have torn opinions and it is not a liberal or conservative matter. It is a very wide argument as it involves people on TikTok, and there is also a section of people defending TikTok as they need it for their careers.

8. Press, T. A. (2024, April 24). What a tiktok ban in the US could mean for you. AP News. https://apnews.com/article/tiktok-divestment-ban-what-you-need-to-know-5e1ff786e89da10a1b799241ae025406

I found this article very interesting because it is a bit too direct. This article is already making a large jump and almost predicting the fall of TikTok and when it is going to come into place. The article also reviews that it is actually dangerous to be currently using TikTok. To answer this question, I feel like this is the whole basis of why they want to ban TikTok based on The information they are supposedly receiving.

9. Tiktok and the war on misinformation: Capitol Technology University. Washington D.C. & Maryland Area | Capitol Technology University. (n.d.). https://www.captechu.edu/blog/tiktok-and-war-misinformation

This article goes over another very valid argument about misinformation and another big reason for banning TikTok based on how dangerous this can be. While misinformation doesn’t seem like a massive deal, it can be very dangerous and break people apart in a country. This can break apart societies with the spread of misinformation and break the country within.

Reflection

To conclude, this project was a real eye opener as I learned many different strong foundations of the following information and what could potentially happen in the future. I myself have always used TikTok as mainly entertainment however it has slowly come to be my largest source of news. While this is great, it can be a little dangerous as this is the major issue with the amount of misinformation on TikTok.

This issue will always seem to go on as issues with China seem to grow even bigger when relating to the problem. As time goes on the issue will grow larger and my prediction is that Tiktok will be banned in less than a year. It was great working with Hogan as it made the information easier to process and many different factors came into play. There will always be issues with tiktok

Whether the idea of TikTok was a business idea or an entertainment base. Like most things it can go to waste and even cause harm. This is the issue with TikTok and why the United States sees fit as it is a way to assure safety to the United States.
