Outdoor Boys
I was struggling to decide who to pick for my digital creator because there were two I had in mind. Recently my roommates and I have been watching a streamer called Jynxi who is the number 1 streamer on the service Twitch and this youtuber by the name of Outdoor Boys. I decided to analyze the Outdoor Boys instead because of what he creates and stands for. Outdoor Boys is a YouTube channel owned by a guy named Luke Nichols who is an Alaskan born family friendly camping content creator. He records videos of himself and sometimes with his kids where he goes out into the wilderness and shows how to survive in there. He picks many different environments to show the different things you have to do to survive. For example in one of my slides he hikes all the way to the peak of a mountain covered in snow. He then shovels himself a place to set up his furnace and bed. He demonstrates how to build a fire far enough away from your bed to where you stay warm but don’t burn to death.
Luke also brings his children on the adventures to show the viewers that families can do it not just adults. There are plenty of videos of him tucking his kids into a sleeping bag and reading them stories before bed. While hes camping he sometimes goes fishing and hunting to display how you can live off of the land around you. Luke keeps reminding the viewer to respect nature and always make it seem like you were never there. His main message to his viewers is to get outside and enjoy the wilderness. He often talks about how people dont go out as much anymore and stay inside and play video games. Luke only uploads once a week to promote people to go outside and not spend all their time watching his new videos and also because he spends days recording and editing his journeys. He also often brings up the fact he was in the military and also gives his tips and tricks hes learned from those expiriences. Another thing Luke decides to put in his videos is him eating. Everyime he goes camping he’ll bring some sweet treat or something he loves to show you can enjoy yourself out there and can relax. Its not all about working and surviving there are times of enjoyment. Outdoor Boys uses social media to engage with his audience as well. He will respond to hundreds of comments and emails because hes dedicated to his fans. This connection really brings in a supportive, reliable audience.
Some troubles I had for this project was finding different viewpoints of his content. He mainly uploads the same things just in different places but after recapping his videos I was able to find some.
