For my COM 250 LEAP 1 assignment I decided to take a look into who and what Elle Darby does. She is a British YouTuber and one of my favorite creators to watch. I usually put her videos on while I am folding clothes, doing my makeup and just going about my day. Her positive attitude is calming and puts my mind at ease. I was tasked with making a screencast video and talking about the influencer I choose. I had to use my knowledge of what I have learned so far in COM 250 to create this project.
It was easy for me to choose what influencer to use since I don’t follow many as closely as I do Elle Darby. I then wrote out the script I used for behind my screencast. I talked about who she is, what she stands for, what she promotes and talked about techniques she uses that we have talked about in COM 250. This was the easy part, then came the hard part. I have never used Screencast-o-Matic and boy do I never want to use it again. I first started watching the tutorial on how to use it and it seemed very enough. I then started to record my screen while simultaneously reading my speech. I was 25% way through my video and my work disappeared. I was discouraged but I just started all over, and tried again. I then got 50% done and after I recorded a clip it deleted everything again. I got frustrated and took a small break. I then tried again and guessed what happened, yet again I got halfway through and it was deleted. By this point I looked up what could have gone wrong and found no solution. I asked my roommate if he knew what was going on and there wasn’t any luck. Next, I tried one more time to record it and it was deleted once again. I decided I needed another way of recording so I made a Google Slide with separate recordings of each part of the video. When I uploaded it the video was so blurry that I could not have handed it in. I tried two more times and each one failed. By now, I was so upset and stressed I was about the give up. After many tears I decided to try one more time and finally it did not delete! I spent a total of 8 hours on this assignment which should have taken around 2 hours. My video had been deleted a total of 6 times and I am still not sure why.
Overall, I had more technical problems than I did academic problems. I am just grateful I finally got the video to work after so many tries. The reflected part of the assignment was easy for me and figuring out how to use Medium was simple. In conclusion, although this assignment caused me a lot of stress I enjoyed talking about the influencer who has made an impact on my life.
