Launching her TikTok in June 2021, Maia Knight, has become quite the influencer being a single mother of twins at the age of 25. Maia is from New York and has found fame on TikTok documenting her life with her current one-year old fraternal babies Violet and Scout. She currently has 8.1 million followers and 748.2 million likes on TikTok.
Maia shares videos of her everyday routines with her twins, while maintaining quality content for her followers. People get “baby fever” every time she uploads content of Violet and Scout on her page. She is the queen of single moms on TikTok and shows the social media world that it is possible to raise an unexpected child on your own, in fact twins on your own.
Vlogs have become one of the most popular ways influencers can spread their quality content and reach mass amounts of people. According to statista, “during the third quarter of 2021 found that more than 40 percent of female internet users aged between 16 and 24 years watched vlogs,” (Statista). Social media is our generation’s greatest news consumption nowadays. A survey conducted by Pew Research revealed that TikTok has been on the rise of where people go to get news regularly rising from 22% to 29% in 2021 (Pew Research).
From posting daily videos on her TikTok page and starting up a youtube channel, Maia has a current net worth of around $1 million. She continues to grow everyday and gain more and more followers which only shows that she is going to continue making money. People have begun to imitate her tik toks and spread her name further than anyone could imagine
TikTok has grown significantly over these past few years and influencers, such as Maia, use this platform to create a niche for themselves to create a community of shared passion and joy. “TikToks algorithm quickly identifies what type of content best suits each user and funnels them into specific niche communities. Younger audiences value individuality and discovering their niche in online communities — meaning brands could benefit from a micro influencer strategy when targeting audiences through short-form video,” (Quotient).
Influencing her millions of fans, Maia adds a little bit of spice to every video by adding humor and cuteness to her videos. When there are twins in the picture, it grabs double the attention. Maia currently has 1.9 million followers on her Instagram, but she gradually gets more and more followers every week. She just began making youtube videos to create a blog more in depth and longer time frames of her kids routines.
Maia has more to her story than just being a single mom to two adorable babies with fame on TikTok. She had to go through quite the journey to get to where she is today. Maia scheduled an appointment with her OB doctor and unexpectedly found out she was 5 weeks pregnant with twins. Her boyfriend at the time told her to get an abortion and to stop contacting him when she was 7 weeks pregnant. He wanted nothing to do with the babies if Maia were to pursue the pregnancy. Maia knew she had to have these babies and she was in for a surprise becoming one of the best single mom influencers on TikTok. Once she began posting her adorable babies on social media, the world knew they had a special place in everyone’s hearts.
Her pregnancy was not all butterflies and rainbows, in fact it was just the opposite. Maia shares in her youtube blog her real life experiences and is as open as possible. She shared that at her 34 week appointment, her OB told her she had preeclampsia and was admitted to the hospital. Following her visit to the hospital, she started having contractions and went into heart failure where she was then taken by ambulance to a hospital 3 hours away. She does not hold anything back and that is what makes her such an influence to the world and shows you the real ups and downs of giving birth at a young age and raising twins as a single mother.
Maia is here for single women to show that you can have a happy household without a husband there. She shows the madness behind it all, but also shows the happiness she receives everyday from raising these two beautiful children. Even though influencers come off so happy and positive, Maia receives a lot of hate comments in her comment section from people who try to correct her mothering skills. The beautiful thing about Maia, is that she gives no time of day to her haters and she takes the hate and grows from it. Being a single mom is hard enough, and do people really think she has time to listen to what people have to say about her mothering skills. Critiquing every little thing an influencer does, is very common among all social media platforms and especially TikTok because it reaches mass audiences.
People today are quick to judge a young single mother of two who also wants to live out her twenties. Maia takes full responsibility for her children, while also trying to add some fun adult time to her life. She shows her fans that it is possible and you don’t have to be a stressed out mom 24/7. Even though Maia has her fanbase for her free-spirit and openness on her blogs, she gets hate for being too open and people go right to judging her for every wrong action she does. While maintaining a job at the same time to be able to afford raising her kids, Maia finds the time to post on social media to keep her fans updated on her everyday life. She has pursued TikTok as a full-time job where she makes the majority of her income to provide for herself and Violet and Scout. Making her simple videos has given her the opportunity to provide for her growing family.
Maia makes it aware to her fans that anything is possible having your friends and family by your side and believing in yourself. Within a year, her dreams are coming true and she gets to bring Violet and Scout along for the ride. Her purpose of her channel is to inspire other women who are feeling overwhelmed that the unexpected can be life’s greatest blessing. Even though Maia faces obstacles on a daily basis and her pregnancy was difficult, her story is proof that hope and joy can come from challenging experiences.
