Portfolio Assignment 3

Part 1 —

Digital media does support a public sphere because it gives people the tools to engage in a public space beyond physical dimensions. The article by Christian Fuchs outlines social media as a tool for creating public spheres, and spaces for shared causes and messages. Fuchs also states that a public sphere isn’t necessarily just social, but can be scholarly, economic, political, amongst other things, and digital tools empower their users to take create those public spheres to their appropriate causes as well.

Part 2 —

My keyword of “internet” is the foundation for the digital tools that allow for digital public spheres and digital democracy to exist. All digital tools that exist for the purpose of connecting users utilize the internet. The internet and its evolution over the years has allowed things like video streaming, direct messages, email, social media posts and message boards to exist and facilitate such a broad range of voices in an organized and instantaneous fashion.
