This makes me wonder what we are capable of creating in the future. If we were able to think about this device where we just simply call them by their name and command it to do something we know we could do, but are probably too lazy to do, then we are able to think of more complex things that could even perform for us and we wouldn’t have to move a single muscle. It is kind of scary to think that we could go farther than just a small device like the Echo. We are under the process of experiencing more than just that, with companies attempting to create smarter AI’s, even in the shape of a person. It won’t be long before we start seeing them on the news, and people start to lose their jobs over these systems.

Since this generation is surrounded by the use of devices and online platforms, it is not surprising if we are not phased by the knowledge that we live in a surveillance capitalism. With all the information we provide to these social platforms and the many devices we own, such as smartphones, laptops, game consoles and tablets, it is not a secret that our information is being viewed by someone greater. In my own experience, I try not to be so specific with the information I input in my social media. I try to personalize the platforms I use as much as I can limit them.

In the outcome of personalizing when it comes to living in a surveillance capitalism, we are not quite in control of what we reveal in various platforms. You could hide as much as you want, but the conversations you have with your friends privately or the comments you input on other people’s posts are not only visible to you, but to a lot of other people. Is a comment or post really deleted if you cannot see it anymore?
